There are millions of bits of advice for bloggers, paramount amongst which is that bloggers should blog every day, if not three times a day. I’m finding it tough to abide by this advice. I mean, I get it. More posts equal more “fresh” equal more Google juice and all.
However, I just don’t write if I’ve nothing to say. What with a background in technical writing plus my general introvertive and highly reflective ways, I tend to be miserly and precise with my words. Well, I guess we could also attribute some of that to my Virgo qualities …
On the other hand, one of my first writing teachers and mentors taught me that a writer MUST write every day, even if we write about nothing more than our pencil cup. It’s the practice of writing, like the practice of archery or of driving or of cooking. With practice, the thinking aspect of the activity can be overcome, and the gift of it, the flow of it, can become the prominent component. Then, the beauty comes more readily. I can become the conduit of words that just arise and flow forth. I love that realm.

Knowing you for a few years I have to say. If you ever get to feeling like you have to write every day even when you dont have any thing to say. Watch out its the end of theseattleblog.com because just like your art if you feel like you have to you will walk away and try something new. good bad or indifferent. I’m not sure but its been a pattern to watch. Though sometimes it sprouts some amazing things. So do whats right for the writer. not the reader. Since your doing it for yourself otherwise why do it?
